What Should I Wear??

Most important thing to remember....wear something you are comfortable in!! If you are uncomfortable in your clothes, you will not be relaxed during the photo shoot. Don't be afraid to accessorize! It helps to show off your uniqueness and amazing style :-) Ladies: a cute pair of shoes; those sexy boots you save for special occasions; favorite pair of earrings; cute hat - the list could go on and on. Guys: that stylish bowtie you got as a gift; favorite pair of shoes; fashionable watch - you get the idea. If your shoot is a family session or group of people - wear colors that go well together; if they clash, they will not look good in photos. Also, try to coordinate rather than be matchy-matchy. Have each person wear what screams their personality, while keeping in mind the colors and/or patterns. And don't forget props! Love to read? Play an instrument? Sports? Fun hobbies your want to show off? Favorite toy or stuffed animal?

General Portraits

*best to wear simple, solid-color clothing

*look best when everyone is wearing similarly toned colors, not the exact same color

*avoid bold strips, plaid, bold large patterns or logos

*white/khaki pants and skirts on adults tend to make them look heavier and will show imperfections

*babies and toddlers look most comfortable in 'soft' clothing - fun, cute outfits can help showcase their personality.

Individual Tips

Incorporate Layers - clothes with some texture add visual interest and give multiple options for posing and styles; jackets, sweaters, scarves, etc.

Add Movement - choosing clothes that show movement can help make images more dramatic. Dresses that catch the wind and jackets that can be opened, closed and wrapped around you, for example.

Group Clothing

Think COORDIATION!

*Don't choose identical outfits

*Choose a color scheme

*Add variations of texture

Accessories

Jewelry - earrings, layered necklaces, rings, bracelets, etc.

Sunglasses/Belts/Scarves - all will add variety and give additional posing options. Bring what you love and we'll see about adding it to your look!

Suspenders/Bowties/Hats - obviously don't do these if you would NEVER wear them, but if you LOVE to rock this look, please, let's add it to your photo shoot!

Props - Love to read? Bring your favorite. Play music? Bring your instrument. Hobbies? Pets? Let me know ahead of time what you would like to show off and I'll figure out a fun way to include them in the shoot!

Fabrics and Colors to Avoid

Cotton Tees or Tanks - while comfortable on any given day, not the most flattering for photos.

White and pastel colors - the eye is automatically drawn to the lightest area; so white and light colored clothing can accentuate our bodies, making us look bigger than we are. Darker colors have the opposite effect.
